India is slowly opening up to the concept of celebrity fashion lines. Taking the lead is the style diva, Malaika Arora Khan.
Malaika, who has often been a muse for other designers has teamed up with The Label Corp which will soon launch its second(the first one being Thehomelabel.com curated by Sussanne Roshan) celebrity curated label theclosetlabel.com . The e-commerce website will be the first celebrity led leisure wear destination in the country offering women stylish, luxurious and affordable everyday fashion.
The website will offer a collection of everyday fashionable outfits that are personally handpicked by the Creative Director and Tastemaker of the brand, Malaika. She will style complete ‘looks’ for women to dress effortlessly chic everyday. Apart from everyday style, the label will also offer sportswear, swimwear, essentials and their version of the iconic ‘Wrap Dress’ taking on a variety of avatars each season.
Talking about her association with the company, Malaika stated, “I am really excited to be a part of this team that allows women to dress up not just for the odd occasion but though their daily life – effortlessly chic 24-7. I adore every aspect of putting a look together for myself and now through THECLOSETLABEL.COM I’m enthusiastic to get a chance to dress beautiful women across the country.”
Speaking about this new venture, Malaika spoke exclusively to Pinkvilla.com. Here are some highlights from her interview.
How did the idea of theclosetlabel.com come about?
It has always been a dream of mine to have my own clothing label. I have always toyed with the idea so when The Label Corp approached me with theclosetlabel.com, an online store that focused on leisure and everyday wear I jumped at the opportunity! It is wonderful to be able to help women across the country dress effortlessly stylish everyday.
What are the kind of clothes one would get to shop there?
Theclosetlabel.com features everyday fashion and essentials, a way for women to be stylish while they go about their day. Palazzo and yoga pants, fashionable inners and tops are at the heart of the collection. We have also included swimsuits and cover ups that cater to the Indian body type, trendy sleep wear and the iconic ‘wrap dress’ that will be available in a variety of different avatars each season. While creating the collection we have ideated the Indian woman who is modern, stylish and strong. She understands her dressing needs and is quality and price conscious. The collection aims to make available fashionable and stylish clothes that are at great affordable price points. While creating the label we were very keen to ensure our collection is approachable and chic.
How would you describe your personal style?
I love being comfortable in what I wear, whether dressing for the red carpet or working. My style would be similar to the clothes we have created for theclosetlabel.com. That is how I dress on a daily basis. It has been so wonderful to be able to materialize clothes I would love to wear and clothes that I think women across the country would enjoy wearing.
Talking about closets, what’s one thing one will never find in your closet?
Cropped pants! You will never find those in my closet. They just don’t flatter me.
What are the 5 things one should definitely have in ones closet?
A little black dress, a pair of heels, a statement neckpiece, a pair of jeans that fit perfectly and a classic white shirt.
Who do you think will be a great muse for your label ?
I think both Karisma & Kareena are extremely stylish and of course, my sister!
