It seems that Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who has previously worked with Rani on Black and Saawariya, offered her the role of the Mary Kom biopic at first. However, clearly, she didn’t end up with the project.
According to a story on Filmfare today, Rani made an unreasonable demand – she apparently asked director Omang Kumar to shoot a few scenes with her first, and if she liked it, she would go ahead and do the film. Word has it that she took this move because she didn’t want to make a misstep and end up with another failure similar to her Aiyyaa. So either team wasn’t happy with that plan, or Rani shot for a few scenes and didn’t like what she saw – either way, the role went to Priyanka Chopra instead.
